Trip Report

Del Campo Peak

Cameron Bigge

7/25/2020 - 7/26/2020

Difficulty: Moderate

Elevation Gain: 6000 ft

Total Miles: 12.00 mi

Gear: Ice axe and helmet

Weather: Picturesque

I began at 9 am on 7/25. 30 minutes into my hike I remembered I didn’t bring my sunglasses. So I went back to my car. This added an extra hour. The trail was in good condition with only two snowbridges over creeks. I got to my camp at Foggy Lake at 1 pm. I ate lunch and filled up on water. I left camp at 2 pm for Del Campo. The last part of snow before the rock scramble was the steepest. I made it to the summit in an hour. I signed the register, took photos and enjoyed the accomplishment of my efforts. On the way down I lent my ice ax to a gal who had the desire to summit and was concerned about not having an ice ax. She summited and was super stoked when she returned my ice ax. I made it back to camp at 4 pm. I relaxed, took a power nap and ate dinner. Mosquitoes were annoying. I tried out my new OR Alpine Bivy. It was roomier than I thought it would be and the condensation wasn’t an issue. In the morning, I woke at 6:30 am. Ate breakfast, filled up on water and set out for Gothic Peak at 7 am. I made it to the summit in 45 minutes. Fun scramble and great views of Rainier. I got back to camp, packed up and left at 9 am. On my way down I met Raymond going up the trail heading for Del Campo. I made it back to my car at 11 am. It felt great to be back in the alpine and my first two summits of the year.
