Trip Report

Black Peak

Juliet Evans

9/25/2021 - 9/26/2021

Difficulty: Easy

Route Name: South ridge

Gear: Helmet needed. No ice axe at this time of year. Glad to have poles

Weather: Great!

Melissa and I set up camp at Wing Lake, and summited from the south ridge. Lots of choss to get there, and one or two sketchy 4th-5th class moves on the summit block, but nothing we couldn't handle. The larches we're turning all shades of neon green to yellow, wing lake was bright blue like the sky, wispy white clouds scattered the sky, and red, orange and purple bushes created one of the most beautifully colorful hikes I've ever been on. Had the summit block to ourselves for a few moments to see a 360 view before heading back down to camp. Clouds rolled thru the second day as we packed up and I realized why it's called Black Peak. A great trip all around!
